Online Body Fat Calculator :

No doubt when trying to reach a certain goal and trying to lose a certain amount of pounds so you can fit into those old clothes, calculating your percentage of body fat would be of interest to you. Knowing your percentage of fat not only can serve as a tool of motivation since you’ll see the percentage go down as pounds are shedding, it can also help you stay within a range that is healthy for you.

There are several tools that can be found on the web to help you calculate your body fat percentage. Some tools are more sophisticated than others. The more sophisticated tools will go into more details such as asking for information such as waist circumference, wrist circumference, hip circumference, and gender while the more simplistic calculation tools will just ask for age and waist size. Though the simplistic tools are easy to use as they clearly don’t require as much detail, the results won’t be as accurate as if you were to use the more sophisticated tools.

When setting a goal for the percentage of body fat you want to obtain, be sure that you are setting one that is realistic. Should you be unrealistic, your body will begin eating away at your muscles and organs which could be extremely dangerous. Below will be a chart that you can use when setting your goals. This chart will be broken down into categories to help you get a better idea as to where you fit in. It is as follows;

For Men:

Essential Fat--2-4%

Athletes--6-13%

Fitness--14-17%

Acceptable--18-25%

Obese--25% plus

For Women:

Essential Fat--10-12%

Athletes--14-20%

Fitness--21-24%

Acceptable--25-31%

Obese--32% plus

According to John Hopkins, if one is “on any non-medically supervised weight loss program, women should consume at least 1200 calories a day and men at least 1600 per day."
