Grapefruit Diet Plan:

Many fads in dieting have come and gone over the past few decades, but one of the most interesting diets is the grapefruit diet. The grapefruit diet achieved much of its popularity in the 1980’s, and was dismissed as a myth and fad until recent studies. These studies have come to the conclusion that the diet does in fact have certain weight loss benefits and should be considered by those looking for ways to lose weight.

In studies, it has been proven that grapefruit does in fact help aid in weight loss. Simply eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice before breakfast each day has shown test subjects to lose about three pounds in 12 weeks. While this may not see like a large amount, it should be noted that the subjects made no change to their dieting regimen. Clearly, grapefruit can be very beneficial in adding a little extra weight loss on top of a dieting plan.

But how does it work? Until recently, the grapefruit fad was considered to be a myth. But, recent studies have shown that grapefruit and grapefruit juice reduces insulin in the body. This, in turn, promotes weight loss in individuals who consume it. High insulin levels may make people feel hungry which contributes to weight gain. High levels of insulin also make body fat less efficient in being broke down. For these reasons, the grapefruit diet has been tested to actually work among those who practice it.

It was thought previously that grapefruit diets worked because of starving one’s self. While this may have been true in the 1980’s, more and more people today are starting to realize that starving one’s self is the worst way to lose weight, and the best cause of weight gain in the future. The grapefruit diet will of course see more success if food intake is reduced, but this can also be very dangerous if the diet does not contain enough calories to sustain activity.

The grapefruit diet is best monitored by a doctor or nutritionist, if a more extreme diet is desired. However, the casual dieter may add a grapefruit or cup of grapefruit juice to a meal or two each day, and still reap the benefits in the long run. While the diet won’t cause extreme weight loss, it can be a very healthy form of gradual weight loss. Slower weight loss is also favored, since weight is less likely to be gained with lesser extreme diets. Overall, the grapefruit diet is a very worthy point of interest that should be taken advantage of among dieters.
